Newcastle-Upon-Tyne’s emo-pop punk powerhouse, Tired of Fighting, continues to push the boundaries of heartfelt, high-energy music with their new single, “Castles”, set to release on December 20, 2024, via U.S.-based indie label Punkerton Records.
A deeply emotive track, “Castles” explores the transformative nature of relationships, from euphoric beginnings to the bittersweet evolution into enduring friendship. With poetic lyricism like “Castles, they crumble down before us now, before us now,” and “We marked this safe so we could keep it from disarray,” the song juxtaposes the inevitability of change with the resilience to preserve meaningful connections.
Lyricist and songwriter, Nic Wood has this to say about the meaning and inspiration behind the song:
“The opening of the song is about giving yourself up to your surroundings, and letting your feelings take over you. I don’t believe in God, but sometimes you experience the natural world around you, a starry night sky, or something transcendental like falling in love and you get this overwhelming feeling that you’re part of something bigger than yourself, that you’re connected to something much greater.
Unfortunately, those feelings of love and euphoria don’t always last. The song is also about how a relationship changes over time. When romantic love changes to deep platonic care it can be a really difficult thing to navigate, but finding a way to still remain friends after a break up can be so rewarding, and it’s something I’m really glad we did”.
Produced with a raw, yet melodic sound, “Castles” showcases the band’s signature blend of early 2000s emo influence—akin to Motion City Soundtrack and Taking Back Sunday—with the modern energy of Paramore and the narrative depth of The Gaslight Anthem.
A Rising Force in the Emo-Pop Punk Scene
Since forming in 2019, Tired of Fightingo has been captivating audiences with their emotionally charged performances and relatable storytelling. Originally launched as an acoustic project by Nic Wood and bassist George Sharpe, the band evolved into a high-energy trio following the addition of drummer Kev Nolan.
With a growing fanbase in the UK and standout performances at festivals alongside bands like Trash Boat and Heriot, Tired of Fighting caught the attention of Punkerton Records after their hit lyric video for “Hollow” premiered on BSBTV, guest-hosted by Punkerton’s Brandon Alan Lewis. This fortuitous appearance led to the band signing with the label, solidifying their U.S. expansion.
Looking Ahead with Punkerton Records
The signing with Punkerton Records marks a new chapter for Tired of Fighting, as they prepare to bring their powerful blend of emo-punk to a global audience. With “Castles” as their debut release under the label, the band continues to cement their reputation as a rising force in the scene.
Fans can stream “Castles” on all major platforms starting December 20, 2024.
