Italy and Canada set for final showdown at
women’s World Cup of Tennis
The 2023 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge final promises to be an electrifying affair between two nations that have lit up Seville during a pulsating Finals.
The clash between Italy and Canada gets underway at 15:00 CET today, as the battle to be crowned World Champions reaches its climax.
Trailblazers Canada have made history and will contest their first ever final after a stunning semi-final victory over 11-time champions Czechia yesterday. Should they triumph, they will become the 13th different nation to win the Billie Jean King Cup and the second new champion in consecutive years after Switzerland won their first title in Glasgow 12 months ago.
Italy, meanwhile, have been here before on four previous occasions but this will be their first final since 2013, which is when they last won the competition. The Italians arrived at the final following a last-four victory over Slovenia on Friday thanks to superb victories from Martina Trevisan and Jasmine Paolini.
As well as the title, the 2023 World Champions are set to receive a record $2.4m – an equivalent level of prize money to that which will be awarded at the 2023 Davis Cup Finals – and will also don the iconic Billie Blue jackets, designed by official Billie Jean King Cup apparel partner Tory Burch.
