On June 7, the Rome MED Dialogues occured in Doha for the second Regional Meeting of the year, which this time were co-promoted with the Doha Forum and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung while organized in cooperation with the Centre for International Policy Research and the Middle East Council on Global Affairs.

The event titled “Small States, Great Power? The Challenges of a Global Gulf”, brought several Middle East scholars and practitioners together to discuss the role of the Gulf in the international scene. The discussion centered around three case studies: sports mega-events as a soft power tool, the diplomacy of humanitarian aid and energy and economic partnerships. These are just a few examples of the activism that Gulf monarchies are currently practicing at the global level. Exploring new pathways of cooperation and developing new synergies is the key to strengthening relations between the Gulf and other international actors.
