Liquid Icons and The Gérard Basset Foundation announce the Inaugural Winner of the Michel Reybier Hospitality Golden Vines® EHL Scholarship

Liquid Icons and The Gérard Basset Foundation are delighted to announce the winner of the inaugural Michel Reybier Hospitality Golden Vines® EHL MSc Hospitality Management Scholarship. The Scholarship has been created to promote diversity and inclusion within the hospitality industry, by offering the winner the chance to undertake the EHL MSc in Hospitality Management, as well as a 6-month paid internship at Michel Reybier Hospitality’s La Réserve Genève, Switzerland.

 

18 applications were submitted from 14 countries. A shortlist of 5 candidates was selected and invited to be interviewed. The winner was chosen by an Interview Panel comprising: Nina Basset FIH, Chair of the Gérard Basset Foundation; Gaëlle Thebault, Group Director of Human Resources for Michel Reybier Hospitality; and Odile Tornare, Director of the EHL Foundation for Scholarships and Honorary Loans.

 

The Inaugural Winner: Huu Vo Trung Thai

 

Huu Vo Trung Thai is a Vietnamese man, who grew up in a rural village before going on to study Hospitality Management at university. He subsequently has worked in a range of luxury hotels and resorts in Dubai, in Shanghai, and is currently the Assistant General Manager of the Blue Aster Restaurant at the Conrad in Nashville, Tennessee.

 

Nina Basset FIH said of the interview process: “I am delighted to see Huu Vo Trung Thai as our inaugural winner. He has an enthusiasm and passion for learning, proven experience within a hospitality environment and will be a fabulous ambassador for the Gérard Basset Foundation, EHL and Michel Reybier Hospitality. We admire and applaud his desire to be a role model for others wishing to continue their learning and gain experience within hospitality from two such renowned organisations.”

 

Commenting on his win, Huu remarked: “It is an incredible honour to be chosen for this scholarship. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to pursue my educational goals at the world-class institution EHL and advance my career in the hospitality industry. As a minority, I deeply appreciate the sponsors’ efforts to improve diversity and inclusion in this field. I am excited to use the knowledge and skills I gain through my studies to make meaningful contributions to the hospitality industry and beyond, representing, supporting, and inspiring younger generations of minorities in hospitality.”
